LUMEN Privacy
LUMEN is a loudness meter and visualizer for iPhone and iPad. It is built so that what you play into it stays on your device.
Audio
In LIVE mode LUMEN listens through the microphone and measures loudness, true peak, dynamics and spectrum entirely on your device. LUMEN opens in the mode you used last, so if that was LIVE the microphone starts listening as soon as the app opens. Microphone audio is never recorded, stored or transmitted: it is measured in memory and discarded. LUMEN asks for microphone access the first time it listens, and you can withdraw it at any time in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone.
Files you analyse
Files already in your LUMEN folder are read in place. That folder is your own folder in the Files app, and because it sits in LUMEN's Documents folder anything you leave there is included in your iCloud or computer backups until you delete it. A file you pick from elsewhere is given a temporary working copy so it can be played while it is measured; that copy is kept out of iCloud backups and is deleted as soon as playback stops. If LUMEN is closed while a track is still loaded, the copy stays in the app's private cache — never in iCloud — where iOS clears it when it needs the space, and deleting the app removes it. Nothing is sent anywhere.
LINK and your local network
The LUMEN plugin in your DAW carries a LINK switch that is on when you install it, so from the moment you load the plugin it announces itself on your local network under the name of the track it sits on and puts its meter readings there about twenty times a second — ready for a phone or iPad to show the session's meters, whether or not one is listening. Each frame is sent to the phones that have asked for it and once more to the network's broadcast address, so any device on the same network can receive it. That traffic carries the DAW track name and numbers — loudness, peak, spectrum and a thinned waveform trace for the scope — never the audio itself, and it never leaves your network. Turn the plugin's LINK switch off and it stops announcing and stops sending. iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time you use LINK, and you can withdraw it in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network; LINK simply stops finding plugins.
Network
LUMEN has no server of its own and makes no internet connections. Its only network traffic is LINK, on your own local network: it listens on one UDP port and pings the LUMEN plugins it finds there. It uses no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
What LUMEN stores on your device
Display preferences only: the delivery target, the spectrum or spectrogram view, the mic-distance setting, the colour theme, the chosen visual scene, your MY SCREEN tile layout and which source you used last. None of it is sent to us or shared with anyone. It sits in the app's own storage on the phone, so — unlike the temporary copy of a file, which is deliberately excluded — it is included in your device backup until you clear it. Deleting the app deletes it. When you tap COPY or COPY REPORT, the readings on screen — and, in a report, the file name — go to the system clipboard, which iOS may share with your other Apple devices.
Data we collect
None, in the app. LUMEN does not collect personal data, usage data, identifiers, location, contacts or anything else, and our App Store privacy label states "Data Not Collected". This website is separate: echelon.audio measures its own pages with a first-party beacon and the Meta Pixel, as our site privacy notice explains. The one thing we do receive is what you choose to send us: if you email support, we hold that message and whatever you put in it — usually your device and iOS version — for as long as it is useful to resolve the case, and we delete it on request.
Keeping and deleting your data
Everything LUMEN keeps lives on your device, so you decide how long it is kept. The temporary copy of a picked file goes when playback stops; files you put in the LUMEN folder stay until you delete them in the Files app; your display preferences go when you delete the app. You can withdraw microphone access in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone and Local Network access in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network at any time.
Children
LUMEN is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes and contact
LUMEN is published by Echelon Labs LLC, the company behind Echelon Audio. If LUMEN ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the app's version notes will say so.
