The meters are not moving
Make sure LUMEN is listening — tap TAP TO LISTEN on the opening screen. If iOS has already refused the microphone that button reads OPEN SETTINGS and takes you straight there; otherwise enable it in Settings ▸ LUMEN ▸ Microphone. Loudness needs a few seconds of programme material before the integrated reading settles.
Room readings look too quiet
Set MIC DIST to roughly how far you are from the speaker. LUMEN compensates for distance so a reading taken across the room lines up with one taken close up. A phone microphone in a room is a guide, not a certified meter — use FILE or LINK when the number has to be exact.
LINK does not find my DAW
Open the LUMEN plugin in your DAW on the same local network — Wi-Fi or Ethernet, as long as both are behind the same router; LINK is on by default in the plugin. Allow the Local Network prompt on the phone the first time, and on macOS allow your DAW under System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network. Restart the DAW after installing a new plugin build so it loads the new version. Guest networks, client isolation and some VPNs block the discovery LINK relies on. The Windows build does not carry LINK yet, so a Windows DAW will not appear in the app's list.
What does LINK actually send?
The track name the plugin sits on, and numbers — loudness, peak, spectrum and a thinned trace for the scope — about twenty times a second, over your own network. Never audio, and never to the internet.
Does LUMEN record or upload anything?
No. The microphone is metered on the device and discarded — nothing is written to disk. A file you pick gets a temporary working copy that is kept out of iCloud backups and deleted when you stop playback; files already in the LUMEN folder are read in place and never copied. Which target should I use?
STREAM −14 suits Spotify and YouTube; APPLE −16 matches Apple Music's Sound Check reference; CLUB −8 is for loud club masters; EBU −23, shown as EBU R128 −23 in reports, is the broadcast standard. Set it on the FILE tab under Delivery Target, or tap the horizon on the LIVE tab. The target drives every verdict, the compliance scale and the loudness graph.
The visualizers
Tap VISUALS in the header. Instruments are real graphs you can act on — spectrum with peak hold, loudness against target, true peak and headroom, stereo and correlation, dynamics, tonal balance, spectrogram, crest, VU and a loudness histogram. Scenes are the audio-reactive artwork. MY SCREEN builds a layout of up to six tiles, each with its own instrument or scene and its own colour.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 16 and later. The LUMEN plugin for LINK is available for macOS as an Audio Unit and a VST3.
