ROOT

audio → 808 bass engine

An audio-to-808 engine that detects your track's root and builds a matching 808 bassline with an editable piano roll. Perfect sub-bass, in key, every time.

ROOT interface
ROOT — plugin interface · Closed Beta — Round 1
What's in it
  • Detects your track's root note
  • Builds a matching 808 line
  • Editable piano roll + MIDI drag-out
  • In key, every time
What we'd love your ears on
  1. Feed it loops whose key you already know and score the detection. Hits and misses are both useful — when it nails one you'd have had to hunt for, tell us; when it misses, tell us what the loop was.
  2. Drag the MIDI out into your arrange window. Right bar, right pitch, right note lengths — and tell us how that felt as a workflow.
  3. Groove/shuffle around 16–18% — we'd love independent confirmation that the timing sits where you expect in that range.
  4. Edit in the piano roll, close the session, reopen — your edits should be exactly as you left them.

QUICK-START · 6 MIN

Turn a melody loop into an editable, in-key 808 bassline and drag it into your session as MIDI.

  1. 01

    Feed it audio

Drop or import a loop into SOURCE — the waveform appears with the DETECTED ROOTS marked. Hit PLAY ORIGINAL and confirm the roots track the chords you hear; the 808 line is built from these.

  2. 02

    Generate a pattern

Pick a STYLE (the genre shapes the pattern), set BARS (2/4/8/16), and hit GENERATE VARIATION. Use the VARIATIONS tabs to keep several candidates and flip between them.

  3. 03

    Shape the groove

Work the generator knobs: COMPLEXITY for how busy the line is, SLIDE for 808 glides between notes, SWING and BOUNCE for the pocket, HUMANIZE for subtle timing/velocity variation, OCTAVE for range.

  4. 04

    Edit in the piano roll

Fix anything by hand in the PIANO ROLL — drag notes to move, right-click to delete, use the GRID setting for quantize resolution and the zoom buttons to get in close. Play the 808 from the TRANSPORT to audition against the original.

  5. 05

    Pick the 808 SOUND

Choose Clean Sub, Distorted, or Short Decay from SOUND to audition the line the way it'll sit in the beat. Use MIX to blend the 808 against the source while auditioning.

  6. 06

    Drag out the MIDI

Hit EXPORT MIDI and drag the pattern straight into your arrange window onto your own 808 — right bar, right pitches, right lengths. Your piano-roll edits ride along.

Worth knowing
  • Groove/shuffle around 16–18% SWING is the trap pocket most references sit in — start there before going extreme.
  • Piano-roll edits persist with the session — close and reopen and they're exactly as you left them.
  • If detection misses on a dense loop, feed it a section where the chords are exposed (intro, breakdown) and generate from that.
