  1. Which of the six engines did you keep coming back to? Tape, BBD, Digital, Ghost, Pitch, Reverse — we want to know which one earns its place in your sessions and which one surprised you.
  2. Morph between two engines while audio is running. Smooth morphing is the party trick — tell us if it feels as good as it should.
  3. Ducking on a busy vocal — does the delay get out of the way and come back naturally?
  4. Tempo sync in an odd time signature (6/8, 5/4), with dotted and triplet divisions, then change the project tempo mid-playback. Confirm it stays locked.

Set up a tempo-locked character delay with dub-style tone and ducking that stays out of the vocal's way.

  1. 01

    Pick MODE and STYLE

    Choose the engine: Tape for classic warmth, BBD for dark analog repeats, Digital for clean, Ghost for frequency-shifted weirdness, Pitch for shimmering repeats, Reverse for backwards throws. Each MODE has five STYLE variants — audition a couple before dialing.

  2. 02

    Sync the time

    Set SYNC to a note division — dotted 8th is the money setting for vocals and melodies. Use DELAY / DELAY R (or the RATIO control) for stereo spacing, and drag the dots on the ECHO TIMELINE to shape taps directly (X = time, height = level).

  3. 03

    Set FEEDBACK

    Raise FEEDBACK for more repeats — 100% is the longest tail that still decays. Set SLEW to control how the time behaves when changed: in Repitch TIME MODE the tail dives or rises like tape varispeed.

  4. 04

    Add character

    Push DRIVE so the repeats inherit saturation grit, and raise AGE for mode-dependent wear — HF loss and noise on Tape/BBD, bit-crush on Digital. WOW and FLUTTER add tape-transport drift that never repeats.

  5. 05

    Shape the tone

    Set LOW CUT and HIGH CUT in the feedback path so repeats get darker and thinner as they decay — the classic dub move. Raise RESO for a resonant peak that builds over the repeats (it's bounded automatically at high FEEDBACK).

  6. 06

    Duck under the source

    Raise DUCK so echoes tuck down while the vocal sings and bloom in the gaps; set DUCK ATT / REL for how fast that happens. Finish with WIDTH, MIX, and OUTPUT.

Worth knowing
  • TIME MODE matters: Repitch glides like varispeed tape, Fade crossfades to the new time with no pitch bend, Jump snaps. Automate time changes in Repitch for dive-bomb transitions.
  • FREEZE holds the buffer losslessly — the loop stops running through the filters so it never darkens. Use FEED to layer new material into a frozen loop.
  • MORPH melts discrete echoes into a reverb-like wash — automate it through a section change.
  • RANDOMIZE is genuinely useful for sound design — hit it a few times and A/B the accidents against your setting.
