SHIFT Privacy

Your songs

When you open a song, SHIFT makes a working copy in its private cache so it can play the song, analyse its tempo and key, and reopen it the next time you launch the app. That copy is kept out of iCloud and computer backups, is replaced when you open a different song, and is removed when you delete the app; iOS may also clear it when it needs space. The song is decoded and processed in memory on your device. Nothing you open is uploaded anywhere.

Exports

When you export, SHIFT saves the file to its own folder in the Files app (On My iPhone ▸ SHIFT). Because that folder is part of SHIFT's documents, exported files are included in your iCloud or computer backups until you delete them. A file only leaves your device if you choose to share it, save it elsewhere or send it to another app.

If you tap Master It With APEX and the APEX app is installed and supports it, SHIFT places a copy of your export in a folder that only Echelon Audio apps on your device can read, then opens APEX. The file stays on your device. If APEX is not installed, SHIFT shows its App Store page instead. Until APEX is on the App Store, SHIFT does not show the button.

Artwork and song details

You can add artwork to a song with the iOS photo picker. SHIFT receives only the image you choose; it has no access to the rest of your photo library. The image, and any song name or artist you type, are kept in SHIFT's private storage on your device so they come back when you reopen the song. They are included in your device backup until you remove them or delete the app. The song name, artist and artwork also appear on your Lock Screen and in Control Center while a song plays, and are written into exported M4A files.

What SHIFT stores on your device

Your settings for each song (tempo, pitch, key, formants, parts and loop points), the original tempo and key you corrected, the name of the last song you opened, and display preferences such as the light or dark theme and export format. None of it is sent to us or shared with anyone. Deleting the app deletes it.

Purchases

SHIFT Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details or Apple ID. SHIFT checks your purchase with Apple on the device so that Pro features work offline and after you reinstall.

Network

SHIFT has no server of its own and does not send any data to us. It uses no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools. Its only connections are to Apple — for in-app purchases, the App Store, and a check of whether the APEX app is available on the App Store, which sends nothing about you — and to the web pages you choose to open from the app, such as this policy and the support page.

Data we collect

None, in the app. SHIFT does not collect personal data, usage data, identifiers, location, contacts or anything else, and our App Store privacy label states "Data Not Collected". This website is separate: echelon.audio measures its own pages with a first-party beacon and the Meta Pixel, as our site privacy notice explains. The one thing we do receive is what you choose to send us: if you email support, we hold that message and whatever you put in it for as long as it is useful to resolve the case, and we delete it on request.

Keeping and deleting your data

Everything SHIFT keeps lives on your device, so you decide how long it is kept. Exported files stay in Files ▸ On My iPhone ▸ SHIFT until you delete them. Artwork you added can be removed from the song's details. Deleting the app removes the working copy of your song, your artwork and all of your settings.

Children

SHIFT is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes and contact

SHIFT is published by Echelon Labs LLC, the company behind Echelon Audio. If SHIFT ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the app's version notes will say so.
