SHIFT for iPhone
SHIFT Support
SHIFT changes the tempo, speed, pitch and key of any song, live, and exports the result. Below are the questions we are asked most. If yours is not here, email us and a person will answer.
Which files can I open?
WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC and M4A, Apple Lossless and FLAC, up to 20 minutes long. Tap Open a Track and pick a file from Files, iCloud Drive or another app's folder, or share an audio file to SHIFT from apps such as Files, Voice Memos or AirDrop. Songs from Apple Music and other streaming services are protected and cannot be opened.
What is free, and what does SHIFT Pro add?
Free, you can try every control on any 30 seconds of a song, and on the whole built-in demo: drag the window over the part you want and tap Use These 30 Seconds. SHIFT Pro is a one-time purchase that opens whole songs of any length and unlocks Export. There is no subscription.
I bought SHIFT Pro on another device
Open the menu (the three dots on the main screen) and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it.
What is the difference between Tempo, Speed and Pitch?
Tempo changes the BPM and leaves the key alone. Pitch moves the key in semitones and leaves the tempo alone. With Keep key switched off, SHIFT works like speeding a record up or slowing it down: tempo and pitch move together, the way slowed and sped-up edits sound.
How do I move a song to a different key?
Open Pitch settings and tap the key you want. SHIFT works out the number of semitones and takes the shortest route; choose Up or Down to force the direction. Transposing keeps the scale, so a minor song stays minor. Fine Tune nudges by cents, and if a track was recorded slightly sharp or flat, SHIFT offers to correct it to A440.
The detected tempo or key is wrong
Analysis is a best guess. Tap Original BPM on the Tempo page, or Original Key on the Pitch page, to correct it. You can tap along, type it or pick another candidate. Correcting the original only changes the numbers SHIFT shows, not the sound.
Can I change just part of a song?
Yes. Drag the loop handles on the waveform to select the part, then tap Change Just This Part. That part gets its own tempo, pitch and key settings, and the rest of the song keeps the whole-song settings. Use the Editing chips to switch between them. Parts apply to playback and to exports.
Keep vocals sounding natural
On the Pitch page, switch on Preserve formants. It keeps the character of a voice in place when you move the pitch, so it does not sound like a chipmunk or a giant. Formant Shift moves that character on purpose.
What do the Quality settings do?
Draft uses the least battery, Balanced is the default, and High gives the smoothest result for big changes at a little more processing. Exports use the same setting you hear.
Where do my exports go?
To Files ▸ On My iPhone ▸ SHIFT. After an export, SHIFT also offers to share the file or send it to APEX for mastering. WAV 24-bit is the best choice for further work, WAV 16-bit suits CD, AAC is small and plays anywhere, and ALAC is lossless for Apple apps.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone running iOS 16 or later.
